Setting the public IP address is only necessary for the Real-Time WAN Transport associated with an external DDS::DomainParticipant (publicly reachable) in order to support the two communication scenarios shown in the Figure below.

For an external DDS::DomainParticipant behind a NAT-enabled router, this address is the public IP address of the router.

When this property is set, the DomainParticipant will announce PUBLIC+UUID locators to other DomainParticipants. These locators are reachable locators because they contain this public IP address.
