4.5.2. What’s New in 7.5.0

This section describes what’s new in System Designer 7.5.0 compared to release 7.4.0.

RTI® Connext® 7.5.0 is an early access release. See the Connext Versions and Lifecycle page for more information on RTI’s software release model.

For what’s new and fixed in other products in the Connext suite, see those products’ release notes on the RTI Community Portal or in your installation.

4.5.2.1. Integrated Connext AI platform improves System Designer usability (experimental)

RTI’s Connext AI platform has been integrated into System Designer. To use this experimental feature, you must:

  • Have an active Connext AI account. Go to https://chatbot.rti.com/ to sign up.

  • Log into Connext AI using the Login toolbar button in System Designer.

Once logged into Connext AI, you can use it to:

  • Generate pre-configured projects using a natural language description

  • Learn about System Designer, DDS, and the entire Connext product suite using an integrated chat feature

  • Get information about and suggestions for configuring individual elements of your system model

For more information, see Creating New Projects and Chat with System Designer.

4.5.2.2. New AI chat feature provides interactive assistance when building DDS systems (experimental)

The Chat with System Designer feature uses the Connext AI platform to provide in-app assistance when building system models. Connext AI examines the DDS-XML configuration in the open System Designer project, enabling you to ask questions and apply suggested modifications specific to your project. Use this experimental feature to:

  • Get assistance with data models, QoS, prototype code, and debugging/troubleshooting

  • Get suggested code to build and refine projects

  • Ask questions about using DDS, System Designer, and the entire Connext platform

After opening a project and logging in to Connext AI, use the Ask AI button on the toolbar to open the chat panel. For more information, see Chat with System Designer.

4.5.2.3. Updated project creation dialog adds functionality and improves usability

The Create New Project dialog was updated to improve System Designer functionality and utility.

  • A streamlined design simplifies creating new projects.

  • A new Create with AI option uses Connext AI to build projects based on natural language descriptions.

For more information, see Creating New Projects.

4.5.2.4. Create project model checkpoints to save time, reduce risk, and improve workflow (experimental)

The new Checkpoints feature enables you to save a point-in-time snapshot of a System Designer project. Use it to capture your current system model before making a configuration change. If a subsequent change negatively affects your project, you can restore a previously created checkpoint.

For details, see Creating a Checkpoint.

4.5.2.5. New category filters make it easier to discover relevant QoS settings

To further simplify QoS configuration in System Designer, you can now filter QoS by multiple categories, in addition to complexity. These categories can help you discover the QoS relevant or related to a desired function or feature.

In the Complexity field, choose from Basic or Advanced QoS policies. Use the new QoS Filter button to further define the QoS set you want to work with based on the Connext QoS categories (functional, mutability, attributes, and deprecation). See the API Reference HTML documentation for complete QoS category details; for example, click here for QoS in the Modern C++ API.

For more information, see QoS categories and filters.

4.5.2.6. Deprecations and Removals

This section describes items that are deprecated or removed in 7.4.0, compared to 7.3.0.

Deprecated means that the item is still supported in this release, but will be removed in a future release. Removed means that the item is discontinued or no longer supported.

Any deprecations or removals noted in RTI’s documentation serve as notice under the Real-Time Innovations, Inc., Maintenance Policy #4220 and/or any other agreements by and between RTI and customer regarding maintenance and support of RTI’s software. RTI’s current standard terms and support and maintenance policies are available at https://www.rti.com/terms.

4.5.2.6.1. EZ-Secure feature removed in System Designer

This feature was removed in 7.4.0 but not documented at that time.

The experimental EZ-Secure feature has been removed because it was incompatible with the latest version of RTI Security Plugins. To secure your projects, use the Configure Security command when configuring a DomainParticipant’s QoS. For details, see Configuring Security Plugins.
