DDS for time synchronisation?

Can DDS itself be used for the time synchronisation of a distributed system? Rather than NTP?

Connext and DDS do not provide a time synchronization function.  Connext DDS requires local time on each platform to be monotonic and not "go backwards" for full and correct functionality, and provides the user the ability to select clock sources to ensure this is the case.

There is no reason a clock synchronization protocol like NTP could not be implemented using Connext DDS.
