License error when using Real-Time WAN Transport

When using the Real-Time WAN Transport, you may see a license error that looks like this:

RTI Real-Time WAN Transport feature license not found: NDDSHOME = C:\Program Files\rti_connext_dds-7.3.0/rti_license.dat.

A standard rti_license.dat file will fail when utilizing any Connext optional features, if the license file has not been updated to include those features. These features are namely RTI Security Plugins, RTI Real-Time WAN Transport, and RTI Cloud Discovery Service. To check if your license file has these optional feature enabled, you can open the rti_license.dat file in a text editor, and check for the presence of lines that look like this:

FEATURE RTICDS       RTI 6. 00-jan-00 0 "License=Developer;Company=xyz …
FEATURE RTIRWT RTI 6. 00-jan-00 0 "License=Developer;Company=xyz …
FEATURE RTISECURITY  RTI 5. 00-jan-00 0 "License=Developer;Company=xyz …

If you do not see any of these lines in your license file, a new license file will need to be generated for you to use Real-Time WAN Transport. Contact support@rti.com for an updated license file. You can also download an evaluation license (see here); this trial includes a Real-Time WAN Transport license.
